Every health and fitness journey comes with its highs, lows, and everything in between.

Some of you already know, I’m heading back to present at the International Fitness Showcase (IFS) in Blackpool for the second year running.

You might think returning would make the nerves disappear.
Spoiler alert: they don’t.

In fact, that familiar feeling of imposter syndrome still pops up — my dear friend Becky reminded me last year just before my session started – ‘this is a reminder of something you said to me…..’You can do hard things.’ …..so incredibly powerful:

We can all do hard things.
And most of the time, those “hard things” are the ones that help us grow the most. This is similar in all challenges especially our fitness journey.

The Realities of a Health & Fitness Journey

The reality of doing hard things.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that progress isn’t a straight line. A fitness journey is a rollercoaster as Ronan Keeting said, where you feel unstoppable, and valleys where even showing up feels like a challenge.

Preparing for IFS Blackpool has made this more real than ever. The preparation isn’t just physical. It’s mental, emotional, and requires showing up on days where confidence is nowhere to be seen.

But here’s the truth:
those difficult days are where the real growth happens.

They build the discipline, consistency, and resilience that carry you through the rest of the journey.

IFS isn’t just about routines and choreography. It’s about music, planning sessions around busy days, and pushing through when life pulls you in ten different directions.

Every practice session adds something valuable:

  • A little more creativity
  • A little more confidence
  • A little more belief in what’s possible

It’s not always glamorous, but it’s always worth it.

Fitness Isn’t Just Physical — It’s Massively Mental

People often talk about fitness in terms of physique, strength, or ability. But the mental side of training is just as important — sometimes even more so.

Your mindset becomes your driver.

There are moments you question yourself or feel like giving up. Moments where the inner critic gets loud. Moments where skipping the session feels easier than pushing through.

But every time you choose to keep going, you build something deeper you develop:

Resilience
Confidence
Self-belief

And that phrase — “you can do hard things” — becomes more than a quote. It becomes a truth you live out.

What This Journey Has Taught Me

Preparing for IFS Blackpool has reminded me of some key lessons that apply for us all:

1. Consistency beats perfection.

You don’t need perfect days — you need repeated effort.

2. Progress isn’t always obvious.

Small improvements matter, even when you can’t see them right away.

3. Your mindset shapes your success.

Believing in your ability changes how you show up.

4. Challenges build confidence.

When you push through a tough day, you prove to yourself that you can.

Where Are You in Your Fitness Journey?

Maybe you’re feeling motivated and strong right now.
Maybe you’re finding it hard to stay consistent.

Either way — it’s completely normal.

What matters most isn’t how fast you move or how perfect your journey looks. What matters is that you keep going. Growth often happens quietly:

  • In the early mornings
  • In the “I can’t be bothered” sessions
  • In the moments where you push despite doubt

So wherever you are today, let this be your reminder:

You can do hard things.

And every step you take matters.

Wish me luck!!!!!!
